Argentine Tango is a social dance that was birthed in Buenos Aires and has developed over the last century by tango enthusiasts worldwide. Tango has been popularized by the media through staged tango, however in its purest form, Argentine tango is an interpretive, improvisational social dance that allows the dancers to develop a deep connection with themselves and each other. Tango is a powerful dance form that transports its dancers through its beautiful, romantic, playful, dramatic, sensual and elegant music and figures. Argentine tango is a constantly evolving dance which is danced socially in almost all major cities around the world, including all major cities and towns in the United States. Greta and Kausiik are deeply passionate about tango and have devoted themselves through years of rigorous training in San Francisco, Chicago and Buenos Aires. Greta brings her unique perspective as a masters of dance/movement therapy to facilitate a mind/body connection through mindfulness, emotional receptivity, and body mechanics. Kausiik brings his extensive experience social dancing to facilitate masterful dancers on the social dance floor. Their goal as teachers is to give dancers the core techniques that can facilitate creativity and connection in tango. Weekly Argentine Tango Classes & Practica in Sq Hill: Tuesdays 7–8pm Tango Fundamentals is designed for students dancing under 1 year. The class will focus on the fundamentals of leading and following, the embrace, the walk and basic figures. This curriculum is progressive, but classes will review content from previous lessons. Tuesdays 8–9pm Experienced Tango is targeted for dancers who have danced consistently for at least one year and have mastered the fundamentals of leading and following as well as the fundamental figures. More attention will be placed on proper technique, complex combinations, advanced figures, embellishments, embracing the subtleties of the dance and exploring musicality. Tuesdays 9–11pm Practica La Bruja is an open forum to play, practice, and improve the skills of local tango enthusiasts. The goal of this practica is be to provide a relaxed, personable and lively atmosphere for practicing tango. Students and experienced dancers from the tango community are encouraged to come experiment and alchemize their dance. Role switching and creativity is encouraged.
