Director, Suzanne Laliberte’ Thomas has been working with faculty to create an outstanding program to fulfill the desire of CBC’s most dedicated students who are working towards a professional career in the dance world. The new program will offer an opportunity that is second to none! Adding to the “dream team” of highly accomplished teachers, Thomas has recruited long-time friend Mariaelena Ruiz to serve as Director of the new Professional Training program and Artistic Director of the conservatory’s affiliate non-profit performance company, the Cary Ballet Company. Mariaelena is a beloved, internationally renowned master ballet teacher who is a founding member of one of the countries most respected professional training programs at the Rock School in Philadelphia, where she prepared many exceptionally talented young men and women from around the world for the top ranks in the world’s most respected professional companies. Adding Ruiz as an additional Ballet Master on the faculty who will work with many student levels, CBC will also bring new opportunities to further enrich the training for all CBC students. Limited scholarship funds are available based on a combination of exceptional talent, merit and need. There are additional scholarship opportunities for boys and young men through the conservatory as well as the Professional Training Program. As a world renown prima ballerina, Mrs. Ruiz was known for being tall, strong and vivacious with great stage presence. “I suppose that’s why I’ve had so much success in training and coaching award winning classical pas de deux and young men”, says Ruiz, “I teach the young men to be powerful and charismatic dancers and partners and ballerinas to be strong technically, with lovely feminine qualities and very importantly with class and presence. Some people say that pas de deux are my specialty; but I love them all!” Suzanne Thomas adds “Yes, it’s true! She adores her students and they respond so well because they adore her too. It’s the mutual affection that enables her to push for, and bring out the very best in her students.” There are many unique contributing factors that enable CBC to further establish a model school that will set new standards nationwide. Participating dancers must either be home-schooled or early-release students so they may experience rigorous daily training in a healthy manner that doesn’t overburden them. The program is designed for self-driven, high achievers who excel physically and mentally.
