Monday's 7:30-10 pm, November 16,23,30 When we over use our rational mind to think thru a decision it can sometimes leave us feeling ambivalent and unable to move forward. Improv has the power to connect us back to the creative side of our mind. Through the practice of Improvisation we will explore what happens when we make spontaneous choices on the spot from the creative aspect of our being We will work with improv games & exercises in order to liberate our body, tap into our intuitive knowing, and awaken our creative play which is our birthright. Through creative play and improvisational joy making, we will give a voice back to the parts of us that have been voiceless. Medicine Theater draws on elements of improv, ensemble building techniques, character and story creation, intention setting, meditation, yoga, and earth-based ritual in order to liberate our body, tap into our intuitive knowing and awaken our creative play which is our birthright; giving a voice back to the parts of us that have been voiceless. *Prepare to move your body and get a good work out!! Asher Lyons is the founder of Medicine Theater and will be leading this improv series. Asher has been facilitating this type of work at the San Francisco Mime Troupe and beyond for 13 years. He has been trained by teachers from Second City, Improv Olympics, BATS Improv, veterans of The San Francisco Mime Troupe, and was one of the earlier players of the PAN Theatre Improv Troupe. He studied at San Francisco State University where he received a Bachelors of Arts in Theatre with an emphasis in performance. He has been training in and performing improv, original ensemble play creation, sketch comedy, and stage acting for over 20 years. Asher also has extensive experience facilitating this work with youth including at-risk and incarcerated youth. Asher has been working and training with Indegenious Elders and Wisdom Keepers from across the Americas for 14 years. He weaves the knowledge and wisdom of the Indigenous Elders and Wisdom Keepers with theatre and play creation, thus creating a Rite of Passage style story making experience. More Info below.
