WORKSHOP #1 = INTRODUCTION TO TANGO ARGENTINA 11:30am - 12:30pm The goal of this workshop is to introduce you to the 6 basic elements that come together to make up this dance, referred to as “Mastering the 6 Basic Elements of Argentine Tango.” We will also focus on connection, embrace and musicality. We will also define the codes of social dancing and proper Argentine Tango etiquette, so that you can enjoy the various Tango socials that you may attend. INCLUDES... Centering exercises Front, side and back walking technique Lead/follow sensitivity exercises Structure drills for parallel and cross walk systems The 6 Basic Elements of Tango Argentino: The walk, parallel and cross systems The Cruzada (cross) The forward ocho (figure 8) The back ocho The molinete (grapevine) WORKSHOP #2 = FUNDAMENTALS - 12:50 - 1:50pm This workshop will provide foundational concepts and techniques in order to progress to the more advanced ideas of Tango. The sequences are arranged with the most basic technique and then progressing in difficulty as we go. We will also look at simple figures using the class subject and how to work it into your improvised social dancing. In addition to the workshop, we will continue to focus on musicality and proper dance floor etiquette (floor craft) as well as perfecting the embrace (abrazo) and posture. INCLUDES... Preparatory Steps: Centering exercises Posture development technique Front, side and back walking technique Lead/follow sensitivity exercises Structure drills for parallel and cross walk systems Walking to the Cross and into the Ocho: Parallel and Cross-foot "salida" (exit) to the cruzada (cross) Pivoting and non-pivoting back ochos (figure eights) Combining these steps with parallel foot walks and the "salida" Cross-foot walk to the right Combining cross-foot walk with, "ochos", cross foot "salida" and parallel foot walks and "salida" WORKSHOP #3 = FUNDAMENTALS - 2:10 - 3:10pm The sequences are arranged with basic technique and then progressing in challenging you as we go. We will continue to look at simple figures using the class subject and how to work it into your improvised social dancing. In addition to the workshop, we will also continue to focus on musicality and proper dance floor etiquette (floor craft) . INCLUDES... Preparatory Steps: Centering exercises Front, side and back walking technique Lead/follow sensitivity exercises Structure drills for parallel and cross walk systems Intermediate level cross-foot walk to the left and right More Advanced Sequences: Cambio de frente (change of direction) Followers back ocho. Sacada (displacement) is when one dancer steps into the space that their partner just vacated. In this class, we will look at Sacadas and also look at the difference between Low and High Sacadas. Barrida (sweep, drag) is the dragging of a partner’s free leg during a Caminata (walk). During this workshop, we will examine the proper technique for leading this. THE INSTRUCTOR... Marlon R. Rigaud is a Native New Yorker now living in Charlotte, NC for about 7 years. He’s lived in South Florida for 6 years before relocating to North Carolina.For over 30 years he has experience with have Ballroom Dancing, both Smooth and Latin, Salsa, Hustle, as well as various Swing dancing, however, his favorite dance is Tango Argentino. Marlon learned to dance Tango with Paul Pellicoro of DanceSport Studio in NYC whom first introduced Argentine Tango to him. Since then he has since studied with several world-renowned Tango instructors including famous performers of Tango Argentino that debuted in NYC in 1985, Nito and Elba Garcia, Carlos Gavito, Osvaldo Zoto, Facundo and Kely Posadas, Gloria and Eduardo Arquimbau, , and Lorena Ermocida. Over the years Marlon has kept up to date with more recent instruction collaborating with Susana Miller, Horacio Arcidiacono, Alberto Paz and Valorie Hart, Jorge Firpo, Alicia Pons, Pablo Veron, Fabian Salas, Gustavo Naveira, Chicho Frumboli, and Oscar Casas just to name those he can remember. He is an Independent Dance Instructor/Consultant for "why not dance? LLC" teaching Tango Argentino, "Developing One Quality Dancer at a Time" and always remembering that "Dancing is Effortless Improvisation" so always practice and have fun. TO REGISTER... Go to...
