“Vamos para la Feria!“… Let’s go to Andalucía and celebrate Seville’s annual Spring Fair, a festival full of dance and song. Sevillanas are performed in schools, parties, weddings, bars, and on the streets of Southern Spain. This workshop is a sneak peek into the full-semester (16-week) Sevillanas Technique and Performance classes which start Jan 10. Join La Magdalena for an introduction to the basic steps in Sevillanas, which are the building blocks of Flamenco. We’ll begin with an intense warm-up focusing on correct posture and positioning (colocación), and move through brazeo (arm work) and marcaje, learning the primary body positions. Learn palmas and jaleos (shouts of encouragement) to join in the fun and encourage other dancers. Soft-soled dance character shoes are recommended (heeled flamenco shoes are not allowed).
