Deep Vision Dance Company introduces the “Modern Dance for the Soma” workshop series throughout the 2016-2017 Season. Taught by Artistic Director, Nicole A. Martinell (MFA, CMA) and invited guests, workshops emphasize a somatic approach to intermediate-level modern dance technique, layering self-awareness with dynamic movement choices and personal artistry. Each workshop highlights and builds upon a particular theme, such as spirals, sequencing, exertion/recuperation, phrasing, and weight sharing. Students enjoy discovering their soma, taking risks, exploring the body’s capabilities, and integrating concepts into daily life all within a supportive environment. Each workshop consists of 3 classes, occurring on consecutive Mondays from 6:15-7:45pm at Towson University, Center for the Arts, Room 1004. Students may attend one, two, or all three classes within each workshop and may join a workshop at any time. Classes offered in collaboration with Towson University Community Dance. **Workshops must be paid for online in advance. Workshops are $40 (3 classes/weeks total) or $15 per class.
