On Saturday, November 19, at 7:30 pm, Gina Capossela and The Raqs Salaam Dance Theater host their 12th Annual Middle Eastern and American Belly Dance Showcase at the Lebanon Opera House. With 84 performers, this year’s show is entitled “They Called Us Gypsies”, and it focuses on the migration from India through the Middle East and Europe, as told through dance. Featuring works from Turkey, Egypt, Iraq, India, and much more, the 12th Showcase honors the dancers whose ancestors traveled from the Far East long ago. The show separates fact from fantasy, examining the term “gypsy”, and exploring the true artistic origins of these people. Special guests, Flamenco Boston, will perform live Flamenco guitar music, singing and dance. The 12th Annual Showcase is a family-friendly show with delights for young and old, including giveaways, comedy and audience participation.
