Please join us for the 9th Annual Cooper Family Dance Workshop on Wednesday, January 3, 2018! Sheryl Cooper and her daughters Calico and Sonora are returning to support dance on Maui by teaching their unique, energetic and most of all FUN dance workshop at the MACC. Proceeds 100% benefit the Solid Rock Foundation. This workshop is available to all levels of dancers. Give yourself a treat in the New Year and support a great cause. This event takes place on January 3, Wed 5pm-8:30pm at The Maui Arts and Cultural Center, Omori Studio, One Cameron Way, Kahului Please arrive at 4:45 to sign in. Thank you! The workshop includes three segments - 1.5 hour Jazz (including warmup), 1 hour of Contemporary & 1 hour of Hip Hop. The Contemporary and Hip Hop are choreography only. This year we are offering the option to pay $20 per segment or $45 for the entire night of dance (3 plus hour workshop) You may pay by credit card, cash or check to The Solid Rock Foundation onsite at the studio. Sheryl will teach Modern Jazz which consists of warm up, technique across the floor & a choreographed number. Calico will follow with Contemporary and Sonora with Hip Hop. Sheryl Cooper has studied with some of the dance community's most notable masters including Ruth Page, Robert Joffrey, Joe Tremaine, Glen Tetley and Michael Kidd. Sheryl's ability and hard work led her to win scholarships from both Robert Joffrey and Rolland DuPree. Her professional credits include: The Pasadena Dance Theater, a high profile dance company in California and extensive work and study with Lou Conte of the Hubbard Street Dance Company in Chicago. Besides her work in traditional dance theatres, Sheryl has worked for some of the entertainment industry's biggest names. Her music video list includes Alice Cooper (her husband of 30 years), Aerosmith, The Bee Gees and Peter Frampton. She also performed for The Rock Music Awards, MTV Music Awards and the American Music Awards. In addition, she has danced professionally with Goldie Hawn, Steve Martin, George C. Scott and the late great Jackie Gleason. Sheryl appeared as part of the original cast of "Zoot Suit" as well as the production of "Movie Movie". She operated a 500-student school called Destiny Dance International from 2003 to 2007, then closed it to teach a weekly class at a Scottsdale studio and devote more time to Solid Rock, a non-profit group co-founded by Alice that serves inner-city teens in Arizona. "Solid Rock started a summer program with Neighborhood Ministries, at 19th Avenue and Van Buren, and we had 400 kids show up for our dance camp," Sheryl says. Calico Cooper began her career on stage at an early age with both of her parents & has danced in numerous music videos. She is currently an actor and dance teacher, and more recently, lead singer for Beasto Blanco. She currently teaches hip-hop and is a make-up artist in Los Angeles. She also teaches classes at the Solid Rock Foundation in Arizona. As always, dancers of all levels are welcome!
