ABOUT JOSE: Jose's tango career dates back to the early 1980's. Jose is a complete artist, who weaves an imaginary bridge among the visual arts, theater, and tango dance. Jose is a teachers of teacher. A leader in the tango community in Buenos Aires and we feel honored to be able to host him in Esquina Tango! Partcial Bio: Jose studied drawing and painting with the great Guillermo Kuitca, acting with Vivi Tellas, and tango with Gustavo Naveira, Puppy Castello, The Dinzels and Miguel Balmaceda, among others. Since 1982, Jose had divided his life between painting and tango, where he is recognized as a distinguished dancer, choreographer, director, and teacher. Among other achievements, he won the National Prize of the Arts in 1991 and 1996. With Carlos Stassi, Jose organized the mythic Buenos Aires milonga called Porteño y Bailarín, where one could frequently see his paintings exhibited. He participated in numerous plays, and danced the choreographies of Ana Maria Stekelman. His most recent work, Íntimos (Intimate), under the direction of Cristina Banegas and danced by him and Eladia Cordoba, earned much praise in the world of tango. José Garófalo emerges from the vanguard generation of Buenos Aires which approaches tango with the boldness and passion this genre demands. More Info below.
