Visit The Stevan Grebel Center For Dance in Pelham, conveniently located at Hwys. 31 & 119 across from the entrance to the Pelham Civic Complex. AKA Grebel Ballet or Grebel Dance, Stevan and Deborah Grebel opened this studio in 2001 to offer pre-professional training, private coaching, and professional training for the intense students who desire specific and personally integrated work. The love of ballet begins at a very young age for many dancers. We offer classes beginning at 2 1/2 with Baby Ballet which is a fun "play ballet" class where they really learn many terms and steps of ballet. Classes are designed to be age-appropriate and advancement is first by age and then by skill level. The syllabus progresses on a yearly basis. Summer classes are offered through special camps as well as daily classes. *Ballet technique is the basis for all forms of dance, and the students who attend Grebel Dance are looking for a strong foundation. Classes are small, as individual attention to each student is imperative to the growth and development of great technique. Unlike many "sparkly dancing schools," where there may be 20 or 30 students in a class, the Grebel's are able to mentor each student who desires to study. Individual programs may be set up for the students. Class placement is by audition for ages 11 and up. Classical ballet is primarily taught with classes also offered in contemporary jazz, tap, lyrical and character dance. * Stevan Grebel was trained by the foremost teacher of classical ballet in the world, Alexander Pushkin, at the Kirov Ballet in Russia, in the Vaganova method. No other syllabus develops the elegant long lines, high extensions, musicality, strength and crystal-clear style that is so representative of Vaganova technique. Moreover, Grebel has worked with great teachers, dancers and choreographers such as George Balanchine, Frederic Franklin, Leonide Massine, George Skibine, Edward Caton, Roland Petite, Rudolf Nureyev, Eric Bruhn, Rosella Hightower, Ludmilla Tcherina, Sonia Arova, Ivan Nagy, Dmitri Parlic, John Taras, Maurice Bejart, to name a few. Deborah Grebel has studied and worked with several of the great teachers and choreographers from around the world, including Frederic Franklin, Rosella Hightower, Edward Caton and Nikolas Petrov. She received a B.A. in Dance from University of Alabama at Birmingham and a Ma.Ed in Dance Kinesiology/Physiology. The Grebels' extensive work in ballet makes them a leader in classical ballet training in Alabama, as well as the world.
