Rhythmix Cultural Works community arts center in Alameda is committed to bringing people of all ages together through a wide range of affordable art offerings in dance, music, theater, exhibitions and arts education. The breadth of RCW’s programming – one of its strongest assets – ranges from concerts of Balinese, Balkan, Brazilian, Arabic, Celtic, Cajun, Swing, Jazz, HipHop, Moroccan, Flamenco, and Cuban folkloric music, to contemporary music, to Japanese Taiko Drama and German Masked Theater. Other RCW presentation highlights include the “4 Cellos” concert with former Kronos Quartet member Joan Jeanrenaud, “Hanayui” performing traditional Japanese dance and music, and Will Durst in a New Year’s Eve comedy show. RCW’s K Gallery presents 8 dynamic art exhibitions annually with the intention of fostering interaction between the exhibiting artists and viewing audience. The K Gallery also features a free weekly “Art Jam” for artists to mingle and create art, and presents artist lectures and workshops. RCW’s programming also extends to arts instruction, including a wide range of classes, family workshops and summer camps in drawing, painting, music, hoop-dance, belly dance, world drumming, instrument building, and circus arts for adults and youth ages 6 to 13.
