TDLI recommends that you wear a supportive bra, and a form fitting tank or sports bra, as well as yoga pants. We always encourage our students to wear peasant skirts, hip scarves and generally, what ever makes YOU feel beautiful and you can move in. Advanced and Troupe students practice in partial costume. I was addicted to dance that movement and ever since. Throughout my child hood and young adult hood, I explored the more traditional forms of dance, point ballet from 11-20, traditional jazz, modern dance, tap and Broadway musical style. However, my Turkish and Egyptian blood runs deep and by the age of 18, I felt the doumbek sound in my veins and found my way to a belly dance studio after being cast as a belly dancer in a college production of Man of La Mancha. I walked into the studio and knew I was home, abandoning all other forms of dance to peruse what felt natural, right and feminine. I retained ballet for a few more years, but that too fell by the wayside for a form of dance that felt so organic and in which the music flowed as sure as my own blood and pulsed within the chambers of my heart. At forty, I am dancing better and I ever have, and my zest and zeal for the dance has kept me young, limber and sensual, every day I strive to be a better dancer. I have been honored to dance with Sasha, Serena, Morocco and Lacy, even having the distinct honor to take seminars with Rachel Brice in Florida, As well, I have been the director of a Belly Dance troupe both Traditional and Fusion for 7 years. Aptly named: World Wind Dancers. I am so thrilled to see the art grow and the Tribal movement expand and take off... The journey is NOW, the dance is for infinity..
