Vote for Video:

Kalbelia or Kabeliya is one of the most famous dance forms of Rajasthan, performed by a tribe of the same name. The Kalbeliya tribes are nomads and are traditional serpent charmers. Hence, the dance movements and the costumes bear a resemblance to that of the serpents. Both men and women participate in the dance. The Kalbelia dance is performed to celebrate joyful moments in the community, and is an integral part of the Kalbelia culture. Their dances and songs are a matter of pride and a marker of identity for the Kalbelias and they represent the creative adaptation of this community of snake charmers to changing socioeconomic conditions and their own role in rural Rajasthani society. Kalbelia songs are based on stories taken from folklore and mythology. These songs and dances are part of an oral tradition that is handed down generations and for which there are neither texts nor training manuals. #Kalbeliya #Rajasthanifolkdance #tribaldance #natyasutra
