Traditional Iban Ngajat Dance

Vote for Video:

This traditional Iban Ngajat dance video is re-edited from my 2008 archives and you must be wondering why I'm using old footage? Well, here is the answer - The person doing the traditional Iban Ngajat dance is the chief of the longhouse that is located at the Lemanak River in the interior of Sarawak. When I shot this video in 2008, the Iban chief was already pass 90 years old, therefore, it is his legacy that I am putting up on YouTube as a reminder and also a record of how the elder Chief did the Ngajat. Those researching the traditional Iban Ngajat dance will be able to get some tips and pointers from this video because it is hard to find people doing it the original ways. The hand movements, the leg movements, it is all practice and handed down from generation to generation. So, do not look at the quality of this video and complain, because when I took it back in 2008, I used an Olympus compact camera to document the Ngajat dance. And nowadays, it is not easy to find a chief willing to do it in this form. So, there you go, an archive of one of the elder Iban chiefs doing the traditional Ngajat Iban dance at the Ruai of this longhouse in Lemanak, Sarawak.
